HAURATON relies on AI and video with SlidePresenter

As an international company with over 450 employees, HAURATON introduced the SlidePresenter authoring tool in 2020 to optimize employee training and share knowledge efficiently within the company. Video as a learning medium and the authoring tool's AI functions play a key role in this.

Marius Leuchtner, Head of Recruiting and Personnel Development at HAURATON, is responsible for employee training. With so many requirements on the one hand, but only a small HR department on the other, this is challenging. To work efficiently, he relies on user-generated content. "Of course, you can also have e-learning created professionally. But we have decided that the cost and benefit are out of proportion. That's why we rely on user-generated content," says Leuchtner. The content is created by employees as learning videos in SlidePresenter and then integrated into the LMS with just a few clicks using the xAPI format.

Around 30 active authors from various departments such as HR, Sales and Development now work with SlidePresenter to efficiently pass on their expertise to employees.

Why video? The advantages of the modern learning medium

HAURATON deliberately uses video as a learning medium, which according to Leuchtner is currently the most relevant medium. He sees advantages above all in flexibility: "If we only had face-to-face training, our machines would no longer run. With on-demand videos, everyone can learn when it suits them. This also works very well for us on mobile." However, video is not only popular with the video-savvy younger generation of employees: "We also have employees who are about to retire and use SlidePresenter to create videos and share their knowledge."

Since the introduction of the AI functions in SlidePresenter, the production of educational videos has taken a big step towards even greater efficiency. "We used to need two to three takes per video and additional editing work. A five-minute video took us around an hour," calculates Leuchtner. "With SlidePresenter's AI, I now can create a complete video from a PowerPoint presentation in just a few minutes." There is no need to compromise on quality. The text-to-speech function, one of the AI-based technologies in SlidePresenter, converts the script, which can also be generated by AI, into a pleasant and human-sounding voice-over. "You don't immediately notice that the voice is AI. The result is really good and fits perfectly," says Leuchtner happily.

Practical example: Instruction with SlidePresenter

A concrete example of the use of SlidePresenter at HAURATON is a training course on energy saving, which is mandatory for all employees. Here, AI was used to generate a complete video from an existing PowerPoint presentation, which could then be seamlessly integrated into the LMS.

HAURATON has to carry out 60 to 70 such training sessions per year. These are usually short topics that need to be conveyed clearly. "We have switched completely to video in recent years. We have achieved an enormous increase in efficiency and employees are happy to watch a short video instead of going to a face-to-face training session." The quality of the videos is so high that no manual post-processing is required, meaning that videos can be produced quickly. "This quality currently makes SlidePresenter unique on the market," says Leuchtner. The next step is to internationalize the videos. With AI translation, SlidePresenter has the appropriate functions for this and translates videos into more than 50 languages at the click of a button.
