“The SlidePresenter AI makes our
employees’ work much easier”
How DPD Germany secures and shares knowledge with SlidePresenter
Videos as the ideal learning format
DPD is one of the largest parcel services in Germany. The white and red delivery vans transport 350 million parcels every year. A team of around 9,000 employees and the 79 depots are behind this smooth operation. DPD is focussing heavily on digital services in the competitive environment. Digital innovations are also being driven forward in administration. As Senior Expert Learning Consulting, Magdalena Nolte is responsible for digital learning at DPD. Employee-generated content from the specialist departments also plays a major role here. Magdalena Nolte‘s task is to provide employees with suitable learning formats and tools. This also includes the SlidePresenter authoring tool, which DPD has been using since 2022.
“We use SlidePresenter a lot for process descriptions and software training courses. In these videos, we explain how to work with our systems,” says Magdalena Nolte, describing the role of SlidePresenter at DPD Germany. Nolte cites operational training courses such as the use of parcel scanners as an example. In the past two and a half years, the team of authors has already produced more than 1,300 videos. “Video is the perfect learning format for these topics, which we can also use to reach younger colleagues” says Nolte. The learning videos are then integrated into the existing ‘DPD E-Akademie’ learning management system, the ‘oneDPD’ intranet or SharePoint, as required. Thanks to the universal interfaces of SlidePresenter, this is easily possible.
How DPD promotes the use of Employee-Generated Content
“The use of SlidePresenter in the company continues to grow organically,” says Nolte, who is very satisfied with the development. However, she is also doing a lot to support the authors in the specialist departments. For example, she regularly organises information events and training courses, sometimes together with her Customer Success Manager at SlidePresenter. Nolte: “I would recommend every company to use concrete examples to show how SlidePresenter can be used optimally and thus help the company move forward.” The approximately 180 active authors are also part of a Teams group in which tips and suggestions are shared.
1 hour instead of 1 day: More efficiency thanks to AI
Nolte was pleasantly surprised by the use of the AI functions in SlidePresenter: “We organised an information event on the AI functions. However, our authors told us that they had already proactively tested the AI functions and were already using them regularly. The usability of the AI functions is therefore very good!” In particular, the automatic creation of learning videos from PowerPoint presentations is used at DPD: “Many colleagues find it pleasant that they don‘t have to set their videos to music themselves and use the AI function instead.”
However, in her role as an L&D expert, Nolte recommends weighing up which topics are suitable for AI-generated videos and for which it is better to use authentic recordings. “Fortunately, I can choose between different video formats in SlidePresenter. But when it comes to simple reference topics, for example, you can hand them over to the AI and produce an avatar video with three clicks.” Nolte estimates that educational videos, which used to take a working day to create manually, can now be produced in around an hour thanks to the AI and summarises: “The SlidePresenter AI makes our employees’ work much easier.”
